Links Galore

Ah, so that explains the extra traffic these last few days. Apparently Patricea mentioned me directly in her Blog. I was wondering what had caused that sudden boost in my hits. The reason I mentioned, it turns out, is because of my mention of yet another Blog (do I see a pattern here?) called Rummaging.
Lets start by providing answers to the questions she poses. I got this link (and most of the other Blogs I mention) from the Guardian which is a left leaning British newspaper that I rather enjoy reading. They, being quick on the uptake, have been providing interesting blog links for a few months now. Its as simple as that. (sorry to disappoint, there is no great secret).

I find search engines work only if you know exactly what you are looking for. If your just surfing, on the other hand, I find you generally end up in more interesting places by following links. The tough part for me is always deciding where I’m going to start. If you start out on a crap page chances are all the links are crap too.

Now that I think about it I get most of my links through the newspapers. Indirectly, or directly. They mention something and I want to know more so I either follow the links they provide (why look myself when somebody else is being paid to do it?) or search on the keywords that arise in the article.

That’s how I stumbled across the time cube theory for instance. First I watched this video (supplied by Hamncheez a funny, though sick site) and then I went and looked up the bloke’s time cube homepage. Quite bizarre stuff, really. The really bizarre thing is the number of other pages that discuss it and are even dedicated to it. I’m pretty sure that they see this all as a big joke, seeing as nobody has supplied any evidence as far as I can see, but it’s a pretty subtle one.

Anyway, so that’s a short sum up of how I get the stuff I get. (I went out drinking last night till early in the morning, so this might not make as much sense as I think it does)

Interesting fact: The common cat is becoming a serious plague in Australia as it is a far more effective hunter than any of the other local fauna and has no natural predators. Its getting so extreme that some of the native predators are becoming threatened with extinction.
